The recent
Elvis Festival at the end of April
– which we hope will become an annual event –
brought the Village People out of their homes to participate
and share in some good clean fun - a celebration of music,
food and talent. Stalls selling crafts by local crafters
lined the street; the sounds of laughter, music and chatter
mixed with the aroma of food and we hope that this will
herald the start of a regular end of month Craft and Food
Market. A new Craft Centre selling African artifacts has
opened and Kitty has started a small fledgling business
making Handmade Soap.
The Soap Kitchen
– as it is known – has humble beginnings and
is made in – you guessed it – the Kitchen. Novelty
gift soaps of all sorts of colours and fragrances –
bright, cheerful, fragrant and fun. Soap Kitchen soaps are
also in all our rooms – providing our small concession
to hospitality frills. Fruit salads, Cupcakes and Muffins,
Hearts, Stars, and Roses – are available. Cupcakes
and muffins look good enough to eat but would give rise
to a quick rendition of “I’m forever blowing
bubbles”. The glycerine soap is hypo-allergenic and
is as gentle on the skin as it is on the wallet.
We have a new Tourism Information
and Welcome Centre at the entrance to our
Village – information, coffee and cake, the Fun Bus
and the Flags of the World are here to welcome all our visitors
to our little piece of paradise.
A wonderful example of the sense of caring
community which exists in our small village is the privately
funded animal welfare project, driven by Fiona and Storms
River Adventures. The project involves dog dipping, mange
treatments, de-worming, sterilization and animal trauma
treatment. Pet food is also supplied to the needy. The prime
objective of the program is to teach the kids how to care
for their animals and to give them a sense of caring and
belonging. |
